NOTICE to TAXPAYERS
The Board of Assessment Appeals of the Town of East Haven will meet in the Town Hall Assessors Office, 250 Main Street, East Haven on Monday, September 8, 2008 from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. The purpose of the meeting is to hear and act upon all requests by taxpayers seeking review of their Motor Vehicle assessments.
Appointments can be made at the Assessors Office from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday by calling 468-3233. Print meeting notice pdf.
Mission
To follow directives set by State Statutes including Town wide
revaluations which are performed every five years. Our goal is to treat all residents with a friendly and courteous demeanor and to distribute the tax burden in a fair and equitable manner, for both the Town and its residents.
A division of the Department of Finance, the Assessor’s Office maintains:
- Property records, street field cards and maps used to determine tax liability.
- Records for motor vehicles garaged in East Haven including vehicles with out of state registrations.
- Records of taxable personal property owned by businesses and other concerns.
- Responsible for the maintenance and adjustment of
values of real, motor vehicle and personal property for the purpose of creating the Town’s Grand List.
- The net Grand List for October 1, 2007 was $2,229,342,701.
General information:
- Street field cards describe each property in Town.
- Assessors maps identify property locations. These maps are updated annually.
- The Assesor's office is responsible for the maintenance
and adjustment of values for the purpose of compiling the Town's Grand List
each assessment year.
- Exemptions: The Assessor's staff administers and implements exemptions for the elderly, disabled, blind and veterans that are eligible recipients.
- Notification to all residents is done on an annual basis via the
local government channel and news media.
- Each year a staff member takes application information at an elderly person's home if they are unable to physically come to the office.
Public Access to Records
The public has accessibility to real property records via our computer stations with printing capability located in the Assessor’s vault. Real property information can also be found at CT Property data & Assessments at www.totalvaluation.com (a part of Total Valuation Services, LLC).
