A limited number of handicapped parking spaces will be available during the Fall Festival on River Street near the Hemingway Avenue intersection. When all the spaces have been filled, drivers may still drop off handicapped passengers in the same area for easy access to the Green before parking their vehicles elsewhere. For access to the handicapped area, your vehicle’s handicapped parking permit must be displayed to the police officer stationed at the intersection of Hemingway Avenue and River Street.

Prohibited Items

Per local ordinance and by order of the Chief of Police, the public is advised that the following are prohibited from the Green during all hours of the Fall Festival:
1. Dogs or other animals, whether leashed or not, with the exception of trained dogs assisting the handicapped.
2. All bicycles or other two–wheeled vehicles, except those operated by police on duty.
3. Spray string, laser pointers, bang snaps, smoke bombs, stink bombs, or any other article whose purpose is to create an unreasonable offensive or noxious odor, noise or condition.

East Haven Merit Awards 2010

Congratulations to the 2010 Merit Awards Winners: Angelina Criscuolo, Anna Rose Russo & Boy Scout Troop 401 Executive Committee/Leaders.

Angelina "Angie" Criscuolo has been a volunteer at the East Haven Senior Center for over twenty years assisting in any capacity necessary and for all the various activities provided for the senior community. Angie come from a large family and includes them in many of the activities. Angie’s mother was a member of the Senior Center until her death a few years ago at 107 years of age. Angelina has also started volunteering the calling of bingo evenings at The Village at Mariner’s Point, where her mother lived for several years before her passing. She is also a very active volunteer at her church as well. "She brings smiles and joy to people of all ages" commented Jan Lougal, Director of the East Haven Senior Center.

Anna Rose Russo, past President of the PTO for Momauguin School, has held the titles of Secretary and President of the Momauguin Recreation League for baseball and softball. She is well known for her role as concession stand manager at Momauguin Recreation League for many, many years. Anna Rose has also served as President of Annex Little League and as advisor to both the Annex and Momauguin Little League. In recognition of all her many years of dedication the league held a "Bernie and Anna Rose" day and named one of the ball field’s in their honor. As chairperson for the Vietnam Veterans Association Fireworks Committee, Ms. Russo approached the town and former Mayor Joe Maturo in 2001 to attempt to create the first Independence Day Fireworks event to be held in the Town of East Haven. Through Anna Rose’s efforts the event quickly become one of the "signature" family days for the Town, attended by thousands of citizens from the region. This year’s event which became a full day of entertainment and food along with the evening fireworks, was its 10th anniversary. She works with the Vietnam Veteran’s Association organizing and passing out pencil boxes at Momauguin School every September and coordinates donations and gift cards with St. Claire‘s Church at Christmas time. Finally she is also a member of the Bradford Manor Ladies Auxiliary and the East Haven Rotary Club.

Over the past 35 years, the Scouting Leaders–Committee of Boy Scout Troop 401 in East Haven have mentored 112 Eagle scouts to date, as well as the thousands of boys who have gone through scouting at the Old Stone Church. The scouting leaders and the committee headed by Scoutmaster Ned Taylor, consists of Eagle Scouts, parents of scouts, and community volunteers. The Eagle Scouts projects have benefited East Haven churches, parks, schools in addition to The Shoreline Greenway Trail, Hagaman Library, Town Hall, The Trolley Museum and Information Center and many other community associations. These community projects, which consist of thousands of hours of work by scouts and volunteers, are supervised by the leaders of Troop 401. Projects take over 200 hours to complete totaling well over 23,000 hours of community service. Some members of the committee, who have been involved for over 35 years, have donated thousands of hours for the youth of East Haven. They have donated their time at Thanksgiving for the food drive that benefits the East Haven Food Pantry, manned the table at Old Stone Church’s Flea Market, and help lead Cub Scout Packs, and the co–ed Explorers Post for Careers and Education. These men and women have mentored more boys in East Haven than any other organization in town.
