Holiday Trash Pickup –
Monday 1/19/2009 – Trash Pick Up follows the regular schedule.
The following holidays will be observed and trash & recyclable pickup will be one day late (except if the holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday). New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day,
Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
Trash Pickup Services for All 1 to 3 family residences –
- Weekly curbside collection of acceptable refuse and bulky waste.
- Weekly curbside collection of acceptable recyclable materials.
- Semi–Annual curbside collection of Appliances & Metals each April/October dates TBA.
Acceptable items include – refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, home hot water heaters etc. NO Porcelain.
- Acceptable Refuse & Bulky Waste
(The following materials shall be considered acceptable items for weekly curbside collection).
- A. Waste and Refuse from
preparation and consumption of food in the home. This includes: shells, skins,
scraps and by-products that have been drained, wrapped or bagged and placed in
acceptable containers.
- B. Rubbish or trash, which includes: food containers, light bulbs, waste paper
(other than newsprint), kitchenware and other household items placed
in acceptable containers.
- C. Single trees, limbs and
branches less than 3 inches in diameter and 4 feet in
length. These items MUST be tied in small bundles
by the resident.
- D. Household furniture,
including sofas, couches,
chairs, tables, rugs and
mattresses.
- E. Scrap wood smaller than 4
feet in length and 4 inches
in thickness. These items
MUST BE BUNDLED AND
TIED by resident.
- F. Screen doors of either
wood or metal framing.
- UNACCEPTABLE Refuse & Bulky Waste
- Construction, demolition and/or
land clearing debris (including:
shingles, plaster, sheetrock, ceiling
tiles, roofing materials, metal pipe,
lumber, landscaping material, tree
stumps, gravel, powders, soil, rocks,
stones, bricks, concrete and
insulation materials and tiles).
- LEAVES AND GRASS CLIPPINGS
(per State Law).
- Explosives, gunpowder,
ammunition, etc., propane tanks
(Barbeque grill size).
- Pathological and Biological waste,
including needles, blood, etc.
- Hazardous materials, chemicals or
radioactive materials. Liquids such
as anti-freeze, gas, oil and oil sludge
and paint.
- Cesspool waste, sewage sludge or
human waste.
- Automobile or other batteries of
equal or larger size.
- 55-gallon drums or oil tanks.
- Large items of machinery,
equipment or other component parts
(including oil, gas, chemical tanks
and pesticides).
- Motor Vehicle Tires, (per State Law)
- NO PORCELAIN (toilet bowls, sinks,
etc.)
- All other items of waste that would
be likely to pose a threat to health or safety.
How can residents of East Haven dispose of their chemicals?
The Regional Water Authority at Longwharf Drive in New Haven runs Hazwaste Central.
Residents from East Haven can come to the Hazwaste Central any Saturday until
October 25th, from 9 a.m. until noon. 2009 start date will be posted here.
"East Haven Day" at HazWaste Center is Saturday September 26th.
We will need help from town
volunteers to help us direct traffic and help the in–coming residents

Acceptable Recyclable Materials List
- ALL CONTAINERS MUST BE RINSED,
EMPTY AND DRY, WITH TOPS
REMOVED.
- Glass: whole bottles and jars.
Excluding cookware, plate
glass, safety glass, light bulbs,
ceramics and non-glass
materials.
- Tin and aluminum cans.
- Newspapers, Magazines &
Junk Mail (tied in bundles
with string or placed in brown
grocery bag). No other types of
paper permitted.
- Plastic containers, Numbers
1 & 2 (no antifreeze or chemicals).
- Corrugated cardboard, not to
exceed 2 ft by 3 ft, and flattened,
bundled and tied.
Why? Because they are contaminated with food, grease and oils.
Please put your pizza boxes with the regular trash. Thank you for your cooperation.
CONDOMINIUM – Refuse, Waste & Recycling Programs
- Weekly collection of acceptable household refuse as listed in A & B above ONLY (see
list above).
- Weekly collection of acceptable recyclable materials. (see list above).
- Semi–Annual collection of Appliances & Metals each April/October dates TBA.
Acceptable items include – refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, dryers, etc. NO Porcelain.
- Semi–Annual collection of acceptable Bulky items as listed in
C Thru F above each April/October dates TBA.
