Press Release

(EAST HAVEN) — Mayor Joseph Carfora, Emergency Management Director Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli announced today that the area will be seeing a heat wave for the next few days and that a cooling center will be available for public use at the Town Beach House 150 Cosey Beach Avenue from Monday June 28 until June 30, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This is the second heat wave of the year; temperatures are forecast to reach 90 degrees with a heat index of 95-100 degrees. These hot and humid conditions may cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke for persons working outdoors. The elderly and very young are especially vulnerable to the heat. In addition, overnight lows will be an uncomfortable 70 – 75 F for anyone without air conditioning. The Fire Chief stressed that those vulnerable to the heat should remain inside in air-conditioning and if you must venture outside, stay well-hydrated. Those interested in using the cooling station at the beach house must be vaccinated and be over 65 years old.
