Tropical Storm Fay

(EAST HAVEN) July 10, 2020 — Mayor Joseph Carfora, the Mayor of East Haven announced the town is prepared for significant rainfall later today and throughout tomorrow as the Town expects Tropical Storm Fay to strengthen based on information from the National Hurricane Center who expects the storm to strengthen but remain a Tropical Storm.

“Our emergency management team is already in place and our Emergency Operations Center has already been monitoring the storm for the past 24 hours, our Public Service Department is at the ready and is undertaking their usual pre-storm preparation,” Carfora said. Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli said, “According to the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, we can expect to see the storm make landfall in New York around 9:00 PM tonight then move toward Connecticut between 10:00 PM and 2:00 AM Saturday. Flood watches have been issued for the entire state and wind gusts are forecast up to 65 MPH.

Residents should prepare for isolated power outages and localized flooding in the problematic areas throughout town. “Don’t ever drive a car through standing water and should you encounter downed wires, assume they are energized and do not approach or touch them”, Carfora said.
