Re: WINTER STORM

Tonight’s storm is predicted to bring the heaviest snow fall through the evening and into the morning hours. Expectations are that the storm will bring heavy snowfall and severe winds that will impact travel. Our public works crews are prepared, and a plan is in place.

If at all possible, please stay off the roads. This is for your safety and for the safety of our public works crews, and our first responders. Their jobs are made much more difficult with weather events like this.
Kindly reference the following:

• Limit travel to emergencies only.

• Stay indoors and dress warmly.

• Prepare for power outages, make sure cell phone batteries are charged.

• Use generators outside only and away from windows.

• Listen for emergency information and local weather alerts.

• Clear snow from the area where furnaces, hot water heaters, clothes dryers and other appliances vent outside the building. Should your Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm activate please evacuate the building and call 911.

Parking Ban/Parking

Finally, please remember that a parking ban goes into effect at the beginning of snowfall. It will remain in effect for thirty-six (36) hours after the snow has ended to allow the East Haven Public Works Department to safely clear the roadways. Anyone that has off street parking for their vehicle(s), is reminded that they are required to use it in lieu of parking on the roadway during a snow event. Those residents that do not have off street parking are reminded that while the parking ban is in effect “if off-street facilities (driveways, etc.) are not available, vehicles shall be permitted to park only on the even numbered sides of the streets within the town. However, on such streets where posted parking regulations either presently … to only the odd numbered sides, vehicles shall be permitted to continue to be parked on the odd numbered side only.”

Thank you—please stay safe,

Joseph A Carfora
