Senior Center & Social Services

So much happens during March! Wild weather; Daylight Savings Time; don’t forget to turn your clocks one hour AHEAD on Sunday March 10); St. Patrick’s Day (when everyone is Irish); baseball is back with spring training games and the actual start of the regular season and March Madness sweeps through Brackettville.

I am pleased to announce the Senior Center was recently awarded a $75,000 grant from the State of Connecticut Unit on Aging for facility improvements at the center and an expansion of existing programs. These grant funds are part of the State of Connecticut American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation.

Facility improvements at the Senior Center include touchless sink fixtures, touchless toilets and new partitions in the ladies and men’s bathrooms; a hydration station and the creation of a new outdoor seating and exercise space. Funds will also be used to provide new exercise classes; provide new individual exercise classes and fitness testing; new computer lab classes and continuing our highly successful monthly “lunch and learn” sessions.

Our “Lunch and Learn” educational series continues to be successful. Recently, the fraud prevention unit of M and T Bank held an extremely informative seminar that featured topics including the reasons elderly are vulnerable to scams, the various types of scams and keeping your passwords safe. Over 45 seniors attended.

As always, please do not hesitate to call the East Haven Senior Center, at 203-468-3277 if you or anyone you know, have questions or need assistance. Be well.
