Good Afternoon

As you may already know a hurricane watch is in effect for New Haven County as Tropical Storm Henri approaches us it may be upgraded to a hurricane. The storm is currently 300 miles off Cape Hatteras but is expected to move North and grow to a Category 1 hurricane arriving in Connecticut 8PM SundayBringing Heavy Rain up to 6 inches, Winds at 85 MPH causing downed wires and trees. The storm comes at high tide which will bring coastal flooding.

I have already met with my public safety and public services team and we are closely monitoring the storm as it progresses. Our shelters are ready, public services has been clearing debris along the Farm River and clearing storm drains in flood prone areas and ensuring the beach is secured.

If needed we will staff our emergency operations center. This weekend we will closely monitor the storm and we are meeting with State Emergency Management Officials at 3:30PM and will be meeting with United Illuminating over the weekend. Regular updates will be provided via our reverse 911 system as well as our social media channels.

Stay Safe
