Residents Report Saving Thousands Due to New Flood Mapping Panels from FEMA---Over 200 Homes Removed from Flood Zones !

Many Town residents along the Farm River, who were originally listed in Flood Zones with the previous FEMA maps, are now reporting their home insurance oblications have dropped by literally thousands of dollars ! Residents are reporting that in cases where the new maps have removed their homes from the Flood Zone and thus no longer required them to purchase Flood Insurance, have saved these property owners an average of $ 2000 annualy with the premiums required for their homeowner's policies. In some case the savings are even significantly higher !

Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. is pleased to announce that the Town of East Haven has adopted new flood mapping panels from FEMA for parts of the Town along the Farm River.
“These 5 maps were produced from a watershed study that recognized my administration’s extensive efforts to improve conditions for residents along the river,” said Mayor Maturo. “Our projects, such as the bridge replacements, have improved Flood Zone conditions to the point that over 200 private homes are removed from the Flood Zone completely. The burden and uncertainty of Flood Insurance has been lifted from many residents at a time of historic rate increases. By consistently working on improvements to our Town, this Administration has managed to save many residents large sums of money, and in rare cases their homes.” The Administration expects the new information to have a positive effect on the real-estate market in Town in addition to the financial relief to homeowners.
The Town has worked with its GIS (geographic information systems) provider to get the information on line. Those familiar with the operation of our online mapping at http://easthaven.mapxpress.net/ can find and compare the previous flood map for their area to the newly released data.
The new maps are available for public viewing online and also on display in the Town Clerk’s office.
“I urge all residents along the River to examine these maps closely for possible changes to their status in the flood zone. We have worked diligently to incorporate this data into our GIS system, which is online and available to residents as well.”, Maturo concluded.
Residents should look at the new maps to see if their circumstances have changed. If they believe that is the case, they should contact the Town Engineer’s office (203) 468-3250 for further instruction in the procedure to remove them from the flood-insurance rolls.
